Company Description:
Aspida is a tech-driven, nimble insurance carrier. Backed by Ares Management Corporation, a leading global alternative asset manager, we offer simple and secure retirement solutions and annuity products with speed and precision. More than that, we’re in the business of protecting dreams; those of our partners, our producers, and especially our clients. Our suite of products, available through our elegant and intuitive digital platform, focuses on secure, stable retirement solutions with attractive features and downside protection. A subsidiary of Ares Management Corporation (NYSE: ARES) acts as the dedicated investment manager, capital solutions and corporate development partner to Aspida. Who We Are:
Sometimes, a group of people come together and create something amazing. They don’t let egos get in the way. They don’t settle for the status quo, and they don’t complain when things get tough. Instead, they see a common vision for the future and each person makes an unspoken commitment to building that future together. That’s the culture, the moxie, and the story of Aspida.
Our business focuses on annuities and life insurance. At first, it might not sound flashy, but that’s why we’re doing things differently than everyone else in our industry. We’re dedicated to developing data-driven tech solutions, providing amazing customer experiences, and applying an entrepreneurial spirit to everything we do. Our work ethic is built on three main tenets: Get $#!+ Done, Do It with Moxie, and Have Fun. If this sounds like the place for you, read on, and then apply at aspida.com/careers.
What We Are Looking For:
We're looking for a Finance Data Product Manager to own the data products that power our Finance and Accounting organization. This is a senior, cross-functional role sitting at the intersection of Finance, Accounting, and Data Engineering — you'll define the roadmap for financial data infrastructure, set standards for how financial data is modeled and governed, and lead the translation of complex accounting and business logic into scalable data products. You'll operate as a player-coach: setting strategy and prioritization while staying hands-on enough to dig into SQL, Python, and Snowflake when it matters. This role reports to the Director of Finance Systems and is required to be onsite 3 days a week at our Durham, NC headquarters.
What You Will Do:
Product Strategy & Roadmap
Own the roadmap for Finance's data products (financial data marts, reporting layers, self-service datasets) — prioritizing based on business impact, close/reporting needs, and stakeholder input
Partner with Finance, Accounting, FP&A, and executive stakeholders to define requirements and translate financial/accounting logic (revenue recognition, allocations, close processes, forecasting) into scalable data models
Define and track success metrics for financial data products (accuracy, latency, adoption, close-cycle time reduction)
Technical Leadership
Act as the primary liaison between Finance/Accounting and Data Engineering — representing Finance's needs in engineering prioritization, and representing engineering constraints back to Finance stakeholders
Set standards and best practices for financial data modeling in Snowflake, including governance, access controls, and documentation
Review and guide architecture for pipelines and data marts; remain hands-on with SQL and Python to prototype, validate, and troubleshoot when needed
Drive data quality and lineage initiatives so financial data is audit-ready, reproducible, and trusted
Cross-Functional Leadership
Run intake, prioritization, and roadmap processes for financial data requests across Finance, Accounting, and Engineering
Mentor and provide technical/product guidance to Data Analysts and Analytics Engineers
Partner with Data Engineering leadership on shared infrastructure decisions, sprint planning, and resourcing
Support audits, SOX controls, and external reporting by ensuring data products meet compliance and transparency requirements
Communicate roadmap, risks, and wins to Finance and Accounting leadership on a regular cadence

Requirements
What We Require:
6+ years of experience in data analytics, analytics engineering, or data product roles, with 2+ years in a lead, PM, or manager-level capacity
Deep experience supporting Finance/Accounting functions with data (GL structure, close processes, revenue recognition, budgeting/forecasting)
Strong SQL skills — complex joins, window functions, performance tuning — and working proficiency in Python for automation and data manipulation
Advanced hands-on experience with Snowflake (data modeling, warehouse/role management, performance and cost optimization)
Proven track record of owning a roadmap, prioritizing competing stakeholder requests, and shipping data products that drive measurable business outcomes
Experience managing cross-functional relationships with both business (Finance/Accounting) and technical (Data Engineering) stakeholders
Excellent communication skills — able to influence at the leadership level and translate between accounting, product, and engineering language
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with dbt, data governance tooling, or data catalogs
Familiarity with BI platforms (Looker, Tableau, Power BI) and semantic layer design
Experience with ERP systems (NetSuite, Oracle, SAP, Workday) and their data flow into a warehouse
Prior people management experience
Background in FP&A, accounting operations, or a CPA/finance credential
Experience supporting SOX compliance or financial audits from a data perspective
