About the role

SUMMARY: This is an exciting opportunity for a seasoned commercial property and casualty professional to shape product strategy, drive new market development, and influence meaningful product innovation across a multi-line environment. In this role, the Senior Product Manager serves as a trusted technical underwriting expert, helping identify opportunities, strengthen existing products, and support enterprise-wide best practices. This position partners across business units and lines business to bring consistency, insight, and strategic direction to complex initiatives, while leading high-impact process improvements that support growth, profitability, and long-term business success. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:    * Identifies, evaluates and manages problem markets, underwriting trends, regulatory changes and emerging issues; provides reports and recommendations to support profitable growth and sound underwriting practices. * Analyzes current and potential books of business, including accounts above business unit authority limits, and makes recommendations on pricing, programs and risk selection as needed. * Develops, implements and monitors divisional underwriting policies, procedures, workflows, quality control standards and governance practices to promote consistency and best practices across operating units. * Identifies improvement opportunities, evaluates departmental programs and projects, and partners with management to strengthen processes, effectiveness and execution. * Develops and delivers training, programs and presentations at the business unit and divisional level. * Serves as a technical underwriting expert and advisor to Underwriting, Product Management, business units and other stakeholders on underwriting questions, audit issues, bureau inquiries and related business concerns. * Collaborates with enterprise operating units to support cost containment strategies, underwriting due diligence assignments, committees and approved enterprise initiatives. * Leads new market and product development efforts, including business cases, white papers, opportunity design, implementation planning and cross-functional coordination for multiple commercial lines of insurance. * Drafts, develops and implements new products, organizational practices, underwriting guidelines and letters of authority for new programs and products within the multi-line commercial insurance arena. * Evaluates complex reinsurance structures and clauses within proportional and non-proportional treaty and facultative reinsurance policies. * Conducts policy wording reviews for renewals to ensure compliance with underwriting guidelines. * Maintains a clear understanding of business requirements and applies expert product knowledge throughout the functional design process, including requirements documentation and technology liaison support. * Supports market intelligence initiatives, special projects and other assignments as needed while maintaining confidentiality of all information processed. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: * Bachelor’s degree in Insurance, Business, Math, Finance, or a related field required.  * Progress towards, or completion of, industry-recognized professional designations (i.e., CIC, AU, CPCU) preferred.  * Combinations of relevant education and experience may be considered in lieu of a degree. Continuous learning, as defined by the Company’s learning philosophy, is required.  * Minimum ten years of commercial property and casualty multi-line underwriting, and product management/development experience with demonstrated technical knowledge with both small and large accounts, or equivalent experience that provides the necessary skills, knowledge and abilities; or any combination of education and experience that would provide an equivalent background.  * Two years of experience with the Enterprise as a Corporate Underwriting Consultant or equivalent experience which provides the necessary skills, knowledge and abilities required. * Residency in Eastern and Central Time Zones encouraged/preferred.    QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES: * Extensive commercial property and casualty underwriting knowledge with strong multi-line experience, including underwriting techniques, occupational classification codes, loss ratios, claims histories, retention plans, scheduled credits and other methods used to acquire and retain profitable business. * Experience in insurance product development, product ideation, market strategy, market research or risk management. * Ability to build enterprise multi-line capabilities and implement new product offerings within technology platforms. * Experience working with insurance-related regulatory and governing bodies. * Sound judgment in evaluating commercial property and casualty risks and determining whether to accept or reject risks for insurance coverage. * Ability to read, write, analyze and interpret policy documents, policy language, technical and financial information, and procedure manuals. * Strong analytical skills with the ability to identify improvement needs, develop solutions and perform necessary mathematical computations. * Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to exchange information clearly, present ideas, report facts and respond to questions effectively. * Strong interpersonal, negotiation and relationship-building skills with the ability to maintain productive partnerships. * Ability to manage multiple projects, meet deadlines with minimal direction and make competent independent decisions. * Proficiency with computers, Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Word and spreadsheet applications. * Ability to maintain confidentiality and perform assignments at locations outside the office as needed. WORKING CONDITIONS:  Work is performed in a virtual office setting with no unusual hazards.  Travel is required, with some occasional overnight stays.  Must possess a valid driver's license with a record that meets corporate standards.   Pay Range - Actual compensation decision relies on the consideration of internal equity, candidate’s skills and professional experience, geographic location, market, and other potential factors. It is not standard practice for an offer to be at or near the top of the range, and therefore a reasonable estimate for this role is between $120,000 and $195,000.  We are an Equal Opportunity Employer.
