Job Description:
ELLKAY is seeking a Product Manager to own the interoperability products and solutions of LKOpera from concept through launch. You will be responsible for bringing modern and disruptive solutions to market that our healthcare customers value and that support business growth. You will own the product roadmap in line with strategic themes and budgets. You will work closely with Engineering, Marketing, Sales, Operations, and Finance, and the wider business.
You will report to the Director of Product Management, LKOpera, and work directly with them to turn company and department strategy into clear roadmaps. You will also support Product Owners as they break major requirements into user stories for agile development teams.
Focus Areas
BASE (First 3–6 Months)
* Deliver an honest assessment of LKOpera’s conformance and data-quality gaps against the top two competitors, with a prioritized fix list. Ship at least one AI-assisted capability to pilot customers within the first six months.
* Own measurable improvement in FHIR coverage and data-quality metrics. Establish a rapid-prototype cadence with Engineering — weeks, not quarters — and be willing to kill what doesn’t land.
* Define product requirements for an AI-native interface engine that is a clear winner
GROWTH (6–12 Months)
* Own the product roadmap and drive predictable delivery with Engineering
* Work with Marketing and Sales on launches, readiness plans, and product positioning
* Partner with Software Engineering on roadmap planning, capacity alignment, and phased refactoring of the interface engine to support large hospital systems
FUTURE (12+ Months)
* Be accountable for the profitability and long-term growth of your products
* Help position ELLKAY’s interface engine as a reliable, AI-enabled interoperability platform
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
* Own and evolve the LKOpera product roadmap and operating cadence, aligned with strategic themes and budgets and with company and department strategy.
* Act as the voice of the customer, making sure workflow efficiency, usability, and scalability guide product decisions. Gather feedback from clients, decision makers, and internal stakeholders.
* Partner with Delivery and Support on escalations that need product input (defects, design gaps, customer-impacting issues). Triage for roadmap impact, set priorities with Engineering, and communicate status.
* Support Sales and the sales process by providing input on pricing, taking part in customer demos and presentations, and helping prospects and customers understand how LKOpera meets their needs.
* Maintain market and customer research, including competitive analysis, and identify user needs and new features through research, HL7/ONC/TEFCA/CMS guidelines.
* Contribute to financial and performance targets, such as revenue growth, efficiency, throughput, scalability, and reliability, and help identify opportunities for new revenue and better margins. Define and track success metrics for customer adoption, product performance, and financial impact, and use them along with user feedback to guide future product decisions.
* Help assess the current interface portfolio and identify opportunities for rationalization, modernization, and simplification. Support vendor and partner relationships related to interface technology, tooling, and integrations.
* Prepare clear, consistent reporting on progress, risks, dependencies, and outcomes for the Director of Product Management and executives, and bring new features forward for executive approval as needed.
* Own requirements definition for complex initiatives. Support Product Owners in breaking major requirements into user stories, keeping the backlog organized and coordinated with related Product Teams (enhancements, production support, and so on).
* Work with Engineering and Design to create and carry out product plans, including feature definition, design, development, and testing. Make sure customer workflows and scalability needs are represented in planning, and work with other product teams to understand key workflows and the data elements needed to support the roadmap.
* Plan go-to-market strategy, readiness, and launches with Marketing and Sales, and prepare information on roadmaps, priorities, timelines, features, competitive landscape, and positioning. Contribute to thought leadership such as articles, case studies, and webinars, and help secure clients for focus groups and acceptance testing.
* Develop product documentation and training materials for internal and external audiences, and provide release planning information to internal and external customers, under the direction of the Director of Product Management.
* Deliver against department goals and objectives, meeting commitments and coordinating the overall schedule, and assist other departments with product design and functionality.
Qualifications
* Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology, Biology, Healthcare Informatics, Computer Science, Healthcare Management, or a related field.
* Experience in healthcare IT, ideally with interfacing or integration across lab, hospital, payer, or EMR/PM systems
* 4 years of progressive experience developing business requirements within a product management or product development team.
* Experience with healthcare data integration, including working knowledge of SMART on FHIR and Bulk FHIR, HL7v2, FHIR R4, and USCDI from doing, not reading.
* Strong experience with Agile methods, including estimation, breaking specifications into epics and user stories, sprint planning support, retrospectives, and scrum meetings.
* Ability to contribute to short-term and long-term product plans, including business cases, pricing, ROI analysis, P&L, and forecasting models by market segment.
* Ability to identify, coordinate, and schedule the critical tasks needed to bring products and features to market.
* Excellent written and verbal communication, problem-solving, interpersonal, and project management skills.
* Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
How to Stand Out
* Hands-on experience building or running interfaces on a real engine (Mirth, Rhapsody, Cloverleaf, InterSystems, Corepoint, etc.)
* You’ve shipped (or built with) LLM-powered features and have opinions about where AI helps interoperability.
* Bias for action: you’d rather put a rough prototype in front of a customer this week than a polished spec next month.
* Responsive by default — customers, Sales, and Engineering never wait on you for an answer.
* Comfortable challenging “how we’ve always done it,” including with senior leaders.
* Master’s degree in Business Administration, Information Systems, or Information Management.
* Current work in the health industry, with a background in other software companies focused on growth and innovative products.
* Pragmatic Marketing certification.
* Certified Scrum Product Owner (CSPO), SAFe Agilist (SA), or PMI Agile Certified Practitioner (PMI-ACP).
