Senior Product Manager — Payroll Overview Join Veras, a fast-growing healthtech startup in Lehi, UT, as a Senior Product Manager for Payroll. Work in-office with a small, high-ownership team building the platform that powers workforce management for senior care facilities across the country. You'll take our payroll product from zero to one — operating like the founder of a startup inside the company, with the autonomy and the responsibility that comes with it. About Veras Veras is an early-stage startup backed by NFX (early investors in DoorDash and Lyft) and Spencer Rascoff (Zillow co-founder) building vertical SaaS for long-term care and senior living. The industry is massive — and it's been neglected by technology for decades. Facilities managing thousands of employees still rely on clunky, disconnected systems built by giant generalist companies that don't understand their world. We're changing that. Building since April 2024, we've already witnessed strong adoption with over 30,000 people across 1,000+ facilities using Veras today for scheduling and workforce management, and we're expanding to become the operating system for long-term care. What You'll Do Own payroll from zero to one — strategy, discovery, requirements, design, build, and go-to-market. This is one of the highest-stakes product we'll ever ship, and it's yours Become a true payroll domain expert (if you aren't already) — constantly talking to payroll administrators and operators in our industry, and to experts behind the leading horizontal payroll solutions, until you understand the space better than anyone Turn deep complexity into radical simplicity — multi-entity organizations, pay groups, shift differentials, overtime rules, multi-state tax — you'll understand these requirements perfectly and then make them feel effortless for our customers Design without a designer — you'll be the UX voice for this product (at least initially), creating prototypes with AI tools and validating concepts directly with customers before anything reaches engineering. The quality bar stays high Work hand-in-hand with a dedicated engineer to ship — a true two-person startup pod with full ownership of the product Build on our Time & Attendance foundation — that team has already built the engine that flows into payroll, and you'll partner closely with them to carry those learnings forward Partner with sales and customer success on go-to-market, pricing input, positioning, and customer training — you own the outcome, not just the spec Mentor other product team members — your seasoning should make the whole product org better Shape product direction and company vision alongside the founding team Use modern AI tools to multiply your output — for prototyping, research, analysis, and improving how we work — we're all-in on this across the company What We're Looking For 5+ years of product management experience, bonus points if you've taken a complex product from zero to one — you've lived the ambiguity of a blank page and shipped something real from it Domain experience in payroll, HCM, fintech, or another regulated, high-stakes space — or a demonstrated ability to master a domain like this fast An uncompromising quality bar — payroll mistakes lose customers forever, and you treat correctness, auditability, and trust as features UX-forward and hands-on — you think in flows and screens, prototype with modern AI design tools, and can carry a product's experience without a dedicated designer A simplifier — your superpower is taking something highly complex, understanding it completely, and making it as simple as possible (but no simpler) for the end user A customer-discovery machine — you'd rather spend an hour with a payroll admin than a day with a spreadsheet, and you turn conversations into conviction Creative and willing to think outside the box — the incumbents in this space are decades old for a reason, and beating them takes more than parity Scrappy, self-directed, and resourceful — you'll have enormous autonomy and enormous responsibility, and you thrive on both A mentor — you make less-experienced team members better by working alongside them Fluent with AI tools and always finding ways to improve processes with them and for them — this is how we work A strong desire to learn and grow — for yourself and for the company.
